A Canadian Certified Pedorthist is one of very few healthcare professionals educated and tested in how to assess, modify, design and fit both custom made orthotics and footwear. They are trained in the biomechanical assessment of the lower limb, for the purpose of alleviating painful or debilitating conditions and providing assistance for abnormalities or limited actions of the lower limbs.
Pedorthic assessments take up to one hour including patient history and lifestyle overview, gait and posture analysis, and assessment of joints and muscles. Once Pedorthists fully assess and address patients’ lower limb concerns, they educate the patient on the findings, treatment plan and prognosis and then cast them for orthotics, if required.
