What is an orthotic?

A foot orthotic is a device that can be discretely inserted into the shoe to support, align, prevent and/or accommodate foot deformities and improve foot function.

There are two basic types:

CUSTOM MADE

• Made from a 3-dimensional model of a patient’s foot and fabricated from raw materials
• It is designed to meet the patient’s unique and specific needs

OVER-THE-COUNTER

• Used to treat minor biomechanical abnormalities
• Often used for children who will outgrow custom ones quickly
• Convenient and affordable
